Essential Question: How does food affect the community?
Project Description: In this project, students teamed up with four local restaurants who sold international food, and learned the skills of food photography and social media marketing. This project occurred during the peak of the pandemic in Taiwan, and many restaurants relied on their online presence for survival. Pictures of food, especially those used for Uber Eats and other online ordering services, were often the only way a customer could see an image of the potential quality of their meal. During the semester, students were split into four teams and worked with four different restauarants to understand the kinds of photos the restaurant managers wanted to use, the culture and histories of restaurants themselves, and the demographic of customers the restuarnts wanted to draw. Students explored the psychology of consumerism and how food affects our body, learned different artistic approaches to food photography, and explored the tools of photography, videography, and content creation through online platforms.
